What’s in the box?

  • Pre-assembled avocado picker head (mild steel, springs, canvas)
  • 2x sets of bolts, washers and nylock nuts for attachment to pole
  • (optional) extendable 3m long 25mm aluminium pole with attachment fittings that separates into 2x 1.5m pieces.

Specifications

  • Pouch ring 18cm x 19cm
  • Pouch pocket 33cm deep
  • Pole extendable 1.5 – 3m

How do I assemble the avo picker?

-With included pole

If you have bought the picker with the pole included, simply line up the two holes on the pole with the two holes on the head of the picker, put the bolts through, fit washers and attach nuts. You will need a couple of size 10 spanners or a pair of pliers to tighten it on. If you are not familiar with nylock nuts, don’t worry that they get tight before they are all the way on, just continue tightening with the spanner or pliers until there is a snug fit.

-With your own pole

If you have a pole net pole or similar, you may need to drill a couple of holes in it to match the spacing of the holes on the avo picker head. Once that’s done, simply attach with the provided nuts and bolts as described above.

A bamboo pole also works well and is nice and light, but you may need to get creative with how you attach it.

How does it work?

To extend our supplied pole to the desired length, simply twist the two pole sections apart in an anticlockwise direction (see video). This will unlock the poles and you can then extend to a maximum of about 3m before twisting in a clockwise direction to lock it.

Once you have attached the head attached to the pole, unwind the rope so that you have one end of it in your hand. With the pole in one hand and rope in the other, aim for the fruit you want and place the bag underneath it so that the stem of the fruit lines up with the blade.

Push forward to get the stem nicely into the blade area and pull on the rope with a sharp motion. Pulling on the rope closes the blade, which snips the stem of the fruit, dropping it neatly into the canvas bag.

Bring the bag down, take the fruit out and repeat or if you are harvesting small fruit and you’re not worries about bruising them, fill the bag before you bring it down!

Care and maintenance

Wipe down the mechanism after use if there are any bits of fruit or plant material, and store indoors. A bit of general lubricant spray (Q20/WD40 etc) on the mechanism will help keep it in good working order.
