Description
Why Microgreens?
Microgreens are nutrient-dense young shoots of vegetables and herbs, often containing up to 40 times more vitamins and antioxidants than their mature counterparts. They’re a powerhouse ingredient in any kitchen — perfect for adding a vibrant burst of flavour, texture, and nutrition to salads, sandwiches, smoothies, and gourmet meals. With Sprout, you can grow and harvest your own microgreens in as little as 7–12 days.

No Nutrients Needed?
Microgreens are harvested at the cotyledon stage (or just as the first true leaf emerges). At this stage the seed contains all the stored energy, minerals, and carbohydrates needed to grow for the first 10–14 days. The plant hasn’t yet developed the root system that would require external nutrients and this is why microgreens will grow fine just in a substrate as in the Sprout System. If you do want to grow your microgreens bigger, you may add a diluted nutrient solution
Note: We support soil-based regenerative farming methods in favour of hydroponic farming (the latter relies on mined rock material and heavy energy input to produce fertilisers, and results in vegetables without the microbial signature of living systems such as soil, aquaponics, bioponics). However, in cases like Arable’s microgreen and hydroponic systems, we encourage anything that helps food production become more localised and self-sufficient.
